Cave Spring baseball coach David Dunstan resigns
After three River Ridge District regular season and two tournament titles, two Region IV championships, and three state Group AA appearances in a row, Cave Spring’s David Dunstan concluded 12 years was enough baseball coaching for him.
“It’s time to be a Dad,” said the father of 8-year-old Maggie and 5-year-old Hallie.
Dunstan, a social studies teacher at Cave Spring, is staying put in that capacity.
“I’m not going anywhere,” he said. “I’ve loved coaching and I’ve loved being around the kids. It’s time for somebody else to do it now.”
Dunstan was the Knights’ head coach the last seven years and an assistant the five seasons before that.
The job has been posted. Cave Spring athletic director Jon Hartness said he will review the applications after he returns from his next week’s vacation.
“We’ll decide who we need to talk to and get them in here,” he said. I’d like to know something in the next month.”
Potential candidates are on staff. They include Dale Nelson, Ricky Lonker, and Alan Moore.
