Trejbal: Christiansburg Aquatic Center
The Christiansburg Aquatic Center’s first year

Shortly after the Christiansburg Aquatic Center opened a year ago, I bought an annual membership. I had grand visions of swimming laps and working out in the cardio room.
For a while, I followed through. I took a swim fitness class and showed up at the cardio room on a regular basis.
Then the luster faded. I have not been in the water in months, and my time on the bike has dropped precipitously.
It is time to renew my membership, and I have been thinking hard about whether it makes sense. I probably attended enough days last year to justify it, but there are a few nagging annoyances.

I’m going to preface this by saying that we live in Radford. My folks are in Christiansburg. They bought our son and I 12-visit passes for Christmas; but even before then, we had used the facility frequently. We even used it often when it was a higher price for us as out-of-towners. I have always found the staff there friendly and helpful. While I have twice been disappointed to arrive and find the “Cove” closed to the public, most times that can be avoided by either calling ahead or checking the website. I do believe the weekend hours should be longer, and I’d like to see the evenings go to 9:30. Overall, however, I think the facility is excellent. We go there with my son’s cousins whenever they are in town – they call it the “dumping buckets place”. We even had our son’s seventh birthday party there. I highly recommend it for that! They really do an amazing job with parties. There will always been ups and downs in any venture, and time will tell if this is a successful one.
