Trejbal: Serve cocktails in Montgomery County restaurants
Lift Montgomery County’s cocktail ban

If you were in a turkey-induced haze last weekend, you might have missed good news in The Burgs. A Montgomery County lawyer plans to pursue a ballot referendum to allow restaurants to sell mixed drinks.
If you did not know about the ban, do not kick yourself.
Most restaurants in the county – technically, there are no bars in Virginia – do serve liquor-based delights. That’s because most restaurants are in Blacksburg and Christiansburg, where liquor may be sold by the glass. Hence the confusion.

So is there actually a restaurant in Montgomery County that is pushing for this, or is this one of those “If you build it, they will come arguments” that is trying to use the lure of increased tax revenues to garner support?
This is to the best of my knowledge a citizen initiated endeavor that has gained support from the chamber of commerce.
I was just curious because I don’t know of any restaurants that seem likely to serve liquor by the drink in Montgomery County. At this point it seems like a solution in search of a problem.
