Boyd: No one speaks for the people

The politics of fear

By Robert F. Boyd

Boyd, of Daleville, is a former professor and science writer.

In the 1950s, a Republican politician running for re-election in Wisconsin to the U.S. Senate was seeking a means to guarantee it. His first term was so uneventful that his constituency was sure to vote for his Republican rival. A close friend suggested he crusade against so-called communist subversives in the government.

  1. The writer regurgitates the the left wing view of communism, the cold war, and “McCarthyism” as just Republican fear mongering and there was no threat.

Mr. Boyd neglects to mention Alger Hiss who was a high ranking US State Dept. official and Sec. General of the United Nations and a Soviet spy.

Hiss passed US secretes to the Soviets during WW II, his Soviet code name was “Ales”. This was confirmed by the Moynihan Commissin in 1995. Moynihan, a liberal Democrat, concluded “Hiss was indeed a Soviet agent and appears to have been regarded by Moscow as its most important. Parts of the American government had conclusive evidence of his guilt, but they never told.” (Moynihan 1998)

Yes, there were commie spies in government and commie sympathizers in the media.

It is left wing naivete to believe a nuclear Iran would not be a threat to world peace. At the very least it would ignite a nuclear arms race in the mideast. At worst, the Iranian radical Islamists would act on their threat to destroy Israel.

The dirty little secrete is that the more moderate Arab states led by Saudi Arabia would be thankful if Israel took out Iran’s nuclear capability. They fear a nuclear Iran.

  3. “The Cold War” was real, “McCarthyism” was a manufactured witch hunt and fear mongering hubris run wild. What many fail to see, time and time again is that while dangerous clowns like McCarthy (and his modern brethren Rush-Rove-Armey-Santorum-Issa) distract, divide and demean this nation, the bad guys are going about their work.

Boyd has it pretty well laid out IMO.
