Editorial: A special session of the General Assembly
It’s early yet to call overtime
Some lawmakers say the General Assembly will have to leave some of its most urgent business to a special session. Really?
The session is at the halfway point and already lawmakers in the General Assembly are talking about calling a special session to deal with two major issues before them: tax credits, which take a huge bite out of the state budget every year, and a state health insurance exchange.
Lawmakers are too busy contending with a flood of bills to liberalize gun laws, restrict abortions, suppress voting rights and advance an array of conservative causes since Democrats lost their Senate majority in November.

“A bill to suppress voting rights????” Requiring a picture ID is not a problem for citizens. They can be obtained at many government offices. If a citizen can’t be bothered to get an ID, I question if they would be motivated to vote. Actually voter fraud does happen – Discover that a person is out of town on Election Day, find out whether or not they voted absentee (a list is posted at polling places of all absentee voters), then get someone to vote in their place. Too many citizens have discovered that votes were cast in their name. (In Indiana, it was discovered that many signatures on Obama petitions were phony. Integrity in elections requires picture IDs
