Editorial: Transportation funding
No more excuses for Republicans on transportation
GOP lawmakers have a long list of transportation funding options they oppose. What do they propose?
Who’s in charge here?
At the state Capitol, the answer is clear. Republicans are in charge.
The GOP controls the executive mansion and both chambers of the legislature. Despite Republicans’ fight to seize control of the state Senate, they have retreated into a minority mentality when confronted with Virginia’s most persistent problem: paying for the construction and maintenance of highways and bridges.

Perhaps yhey need to be pushing their federal counter parts to agree with Obama’s structural budget to get the funding they need for highways. That would take the pressure off their backs. If that is too much of a loss of State authority, then they need to suck it up and make some decisions to keep our highways safe and paved.

The sight of so many Republicans cowering in the cloakroom would be funny if it weren’t so serious for the state. What wimps.

Yes, by all means lets have VDOT workers stand out by the roadside holding their boots out for donations. They’ll be out there right alongside me with my boot out to pay for four dollar a gallon gasoline I’m going to need to get to work. And that’s four dollars before we raise the poor stagnated gasoline tax to get more revenue to pay those poor VDOT workers. Oh, by the way, the VDOT budget for 2012 is 4.6 Billion dollars. That’s a 46% increase over last year.
