State is eroding public school support
Gov. Bob McDonnell’s proposed budget to fund education is a myth.
School districts across Virginia are facing shortfalls, such as more than $6.2million in Montgomery County.
S.B. 241 Tuition Tax Credit is an entitlement for private schools that reduces future funding for public schools, when 94.8percent of Virginia children attend public schools.
State government is also promoting voucher programs, which take money from public schools.
Taxpayer money should not fund private education.
Inadequate funding for public education is a continuing issue that becomes increasingly more severe as the goal to privatize public education is ever more evident.
Our educational system is continuing to be eroded by an unfair tax system. Virginia corporations pay one of the lowest income tax rates in the nation. Corporations depend on a strong educational system to attract a well-trained workforce and benefit substantially.
It is time to end the regressive tax system in Virginia and support education. Passing the buck to localities is not the answer. Property taxes support the largest percentage of funds for public schools, which goes back to the issue of regressive taxation.
