Virginia ranks in the middle
The Gallup polling firm recently updated its statistics about the states. Questions covered political leanings, the economy and well being. Check out their site for an interactive presentation of the data that includes state comparisons.
The thing that stands out to me is how middling Virginia is on everything.
The commonwealth ranks 29th on percent of people who identify as Democrats or Democratic-leaning (41.4 percent) and 23rd on percent who identify as Republican or Republican-leaning (42.3 percent).
On overall well being, we rank 22nd.
And so on. Though these data do not break it out, I’d make the case that what we’re seeing here is not a state in the middle but rather at least two parts of one state that differ dramatically. All those Democrats … Northern Virginia and Richmond. All those Republicans … the rest of of Virginia.
What jumps out at you in the survey results?
