I am so happy to hear of Berkshire-Hathaway making a commitment to newspapers and I hope it works out well. Thanks Mr. Buffett!

I understand one is the Richmond Times-Disptach and others include Winston-Salem Journal in North Carolina and newspapers in Lynchburg, Charlottesville, Danville, Bristol, Waynesboro, Culpeper and Prince William County.
“Barack Obama, the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review, was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii. The son of an American anthropologist and a Kenyan finance minister…”

Breitbart has obtained a promotional booklet produced in 1991 by Obama’s promotional agency, Acton & Dystel, which proclaims Obama was “born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii.”
Obama quite using the “born in Kenya” part of his resume in 2007!
Now there is some question whether Obama’s father was divorced from his former wife when he married Obama’s mother. I only bring this up because I know of the Liberals grave concern that some of Romney’s ancestors had more than one wife over 100 years ago. Polygamy is important to some it seems.
Now I for one have no doubts about Obama being a true blue American thru and thru and is legitimate in all respects and only pass this along for information sake!
#2 – John, whether or not if he was born in Kenya or here, it seems pretty obvious he gamed the system for grant money and benefits to get through school, which contributes to the fact that the man is a professional liar.
He is from were ever it is the most advantageous at the time. Needs school loans? Born in Kenya. Wants to be President? Born in Hawaii.
#1 Sandi,
It seems Liberals like yourself are hoping to hush conservative media such as newspapers, cable networks, and talk radio. If you can’t beat’m, kill’m!
Sorry, it ain’t gonna work!
I suspect Buffett is enough of a business man not to change what is working, after all he is the quintessential “one percenter” looking to just make more money.
By the way, Sandi, I thought you hated corporate raiders! Those that buy struggling companies cheap, try to turn them into making a profit for the new owner if possible, but if they don’t, just dump them and cut the losses.
What’s the phraes? Oh yea, its called “capitalism”! Capitalism has provided the greatest good to the greatest number of people above any other economic form.
Why did I KNOW this was going to show up here?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/17/obama-birthers_n_1526222.html?ref=politics
the woman who wrote Obama’s biography in the pamphlet said Thursday that she had misidentified Obama’s place of birth.
“This was nothing more than a fact-checking error by me — an agency assistant at the time,” Miriam Goderich, who worked for the literary agency Acton & Dystel, told Yahoo News. “There was never any information given to us by Obama in any of his correspondence or other communications suggesting in any way that he was born in Kenya and not Hawaii.”
And yet you still have the gall to decry the “attacks” on Willard Romney. Unbelievable hypocrisy on display here.
Michael, do you have ANY proof of the accusation you are making?
John R, I did not say one word or hint of any hope to “hush conservative media” and the Koch billions were just as capable of buying them as Buffett was. It is NOT liberals trying to kill newspapers, not by a long shot.
Buffett has plenty of money, he was making a commitment to the newspaper industry because he likes newspapers and wants them to succeed if they can. YOU are the one reading more (much more) into it than that for your own blind partisan need. It is your typical mien.
As usual, you “thought” wrong. What I “hate” is corporate raiders like Willard Romney who buy companies to strip, profit from and bankrupt them regardless of who they hurt as long as them make money. BIG difference from what Buffett is doing.
I will paraphrase a great meme, I your capitalism, it has much to recommend it, but I do not like all your capitalists!
Yes, “Capitalism has provided the greatest good to the greatest number of people” and it has provided real harm and suffering as well. Mostly at the hands of those for whom ONLY profit matters. There is no perfect system and you have me confused with Communists and Socialists again, as I am not looking to change the economic system of this nation. Only to safeguard the regulation it demands.
@5 “There was never any information given to us by Obama in any of his correspondence or other communications suggesting in any way that he was born in Kenya and not Hawaii.”
Soooooo they just picked Kenya? Anyone follow up on that comment? Where did Kenya come from then? I’ve never been a birther, but reading these stories it is a bit bizarre.
I guess this is buried in the Thursday thread because of the bigger news of how “innocent” Zimmerman really is, but I think we should all look at this and see yet more of the fall out from a dysfunctional Congress so I will post it here too.
Maybe if they could stop fighting with each other and trying to bring down the Obama administration we could get this fixed. The behavior in Congress is just a repeat of the same behavior over and over yet they do not want to be called “insane”. Certainly this is shades of the Clinton witch hunts which “occupied” the nation and further deteriorated any hope of good governance from torch carriers with rope.
This is a MASSIVE Tax fraud and the IRS needs the circus in Congress to fix it. And what about the employers who are giving these people the jobs? This is a national outrage people!

I know it is all still a great conspiracy Uptheriver, but his father was “a Kenyan senior governmental economist”. So he was obviously from Kenya. It was an honest mistake, but of course only the TP/GOP make that kind so this had to be a conspiracy.

#5 – Obama is one of the worlds greatest narcissists. Do you honestly think he didn’t read what was written about him and not see where they said he was born in Kenya?
Either he was born in Kenya or he was born in Hawaii. If he was born in Kenya, he lied to be President. If he was born in Hawaii, he lied about being a foreign student to obtain funds for school. That’s simply the way it is…there is no gray area. He lied about one or the other.
Which one is it Sandi?
@4 John R. says, “Capitalism has provided the greatest good to the greatest number of people above any other economic form.”
We’ve got a rate of utilization of industrial equipment of only about 80% which means 20% of our productive capacity is being wasted. At the same time, 8% of the work force is unemployed.
From a capitalist perspective, why can’t the capitalist system put those 8% that want to work with that 20% not being used? If capitalism worked, that would add about $1 trillion to our GDP per year.
I have my own understanding of why it’s experiencing this failure but would be interested in hearing your take on it.
11 – Scott has a point. The socialists have always boasted full employment. Think of all the happily employed people in Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, Red China, Cuba, etc. That’s something to shoot for.
No particular reason for this. I just thought it both interesting and appalling.

…a Tennessee man who has fathered 30 children is asking the courts for a break on child support.
Desmond Hatchett, 33, of Knoxville has children with 11 different women, reports WREG-TV.
The state already takes half his paycheck and divides it up, which doesn’t amount to much when Hatchett is making only minimum wage. Some of the moms receive as little as $1.49 a month….
…At the time, he said he was not going to father any more kids, but he ended up having nine more in the past three years.
The state cannot order Hatchett to stop making babies. He hasn’t broken any laws, according to the report.
@10 Michael what are you talking about re: lying to obtain student aid?
Are you referring to this old thing?
#14 – No, Luanne.
Surely, you aren’t referring to the decades-old recollection of a mailman, the other unsubstantiated drivel. So what is your evidence?
Michael, it is not up to me to refute your unsubstantiated, unattributed and unproven accusations. You said it, you prove it!
You are right about one thing, there is no gray in the world you folks live in, there is only, Democrat or Republican, Socialist or Republican, Communist or Republican.
@12 89Hoo, I know you mean that as an insult but really, full employment is one of the things being held up as the ideal. Obama is criticized for the rate of unemployment and the Dems criticized the Reps. when they were in charge too.
And yet the fact remains. We have an economic system that can’t reconcile putting people to work with the unused means of production. Is this a good thing or bad thing? We, as a society, will have to decide.
Do we want full employment? Is that enough? Do we want those working to having a living wage? How much is enough?
One thing I think we can ALL agree on is that everyone that can contribute should contribute. If everyone contributes, those of us currently working could actually cut back our work time to spend time with our families, etc. Think of it as a redistribution of leisure. Of course, that would mean the rich that have chosen to take it easy would have to work so you know it’s not going to happen. And, the unemployed would have to work but then we’d have no one to blame for income inequality so you know it’s not going to happen either.
Maybe this can help you out Michael.

#10, did you really fall for that April Fool’s Day nonsense? Some people will grasp at any straw. Is your hatred of Obama so strong that it caused you to believe that hoax? How sad.
Obama was born in Hawaii…it should be that way because he is president.
In 1991 it was said he was born in Kenya to get money for a book deal or a job. OK, so let’s see the college transcripts/records to see where Obama was “born” to attend Occidental, Columbia and Harvard. What did HE say back then?
It’s all a blank canvas..you may paint his picture any way you want and be right. His is the world of “composite girlfriends”…part of his presidential campaign is a made up woman named Julia. His is a world where you can paint some huge financial calamity on the horizon and then claim you saved the nation from it by saving and creating jobs with an $800 B boondoggle.
I was for gay marriage in the 90s, against it in the 00s and now for it in the 10s. Not a problem with this press and his “followers”.
Bud: umm, what? Your post rambles a bit and is unclear. What exactly was your point? Please clarify (and maybe proof-read this time…) Thanks!
My point E William is just who is our President? And you made it quite well ..”unclear” please “clarify”.
Bud, once again your post just doesn’t make sense. Good evening to you, Sir.
It happens when you NEED something to be true E. William. We don’t understand it because we do not need for “the grassy knoll”, “area 51″, or the Kenyan, Muslim, antiChrist to be true.
E William are you familiar with “Julia” and the composite girlfriend? If you’re not then I can see where my post would lose you.
Actually, Bud, I know about “Julia” and your post still doesn’t make sense; that’s not intended to be mean or ugly, it’s just an observation on the style of your expression.
Sandi, I agree. I think there are people out there who are just so angry (for their own personal reasons) that Obama was elected that they will accept just about anything negative about him, no matter how ridiculous or illogical it might sound. I admit I struggled with this same phenomenon when Reagan and the Bushes were in the White House, but I still managed to think critically about the various negatives raised against them. However, it seems we have become so polarized in this nation, I have begun to wonder if that will be our downfall. Not some economic or military calamity, but our inability to work for the greater good of the country. The Repubs send so much time and effort looking for ways to discredit Obama and criticizing The Left the Dems spend so much time slamming repubs and The Right, that no one can find any common ground. Where do we go from here? I worry for my children and the America they will inherit.
Ewilliam..there is little real about Obama..Julia is a fabrication, his “composite” girlfriend in his book is an illusion to justify his ideology.
His very limited time in the private sector was referred to as behind enemy lines. Clearly his view on gay marriage is built on sand. It was OK to have it said about him that he was born in Kenya in a 1991 marketing piece- but that “misunderstanding”, which was out there for 16 years was finally corrected 2 months before his announcement of candidacy for president. And because it’s necessary to be a US citizen to occupy the presidential office, his birth place “should be” Hawaii NOW.
So just who is our president E WIlliam? What environments and happenings formed him and just what are his true beliefs. Why the lack of scrutiny and meaningful analysis? Could it be the blank canvas is preferable to what we might find?
