Jefferson takes a bow
The designer of the state Capitol gladly gave the spotlight to Washington.
Thomas Jefferson has played second fiddle to George Washington at the Virginia Capitol for two centuries. A life-size marble statue of Washington takes center stage in the Rotunda, while busts of Jefferson and six other presidents born in the Old Dominion, along with the Marquis de Lafayette, line the walls.
