No cats harmed in the making of haven
By Robin Franklin
I am feeling the need to defend myself against the article written in last Sunday’s paper by Linda Hopkins (“Now a few words for the undercat,” May 6). She was responding to a nice article about our haven for birds and squirrels written by Liza Field (“In a Salem back yard, diverse species make a joyful communion,” April 28).
In Field’s article was mention of Carl the Terrible, our Welsh Terrier, being protector of the “wild” animals in our yard from cats. I read, with horror, in Hopkins’ commentary mentions of witches, Satan and the killing, maiming, shooting and setting on fire of cats.
Franklin lives in Salem and is an avid gardener.
