Swift-moving water shows no mercy

Flash floods destroyed property but, thankfully, no lives.

“I woke up around 2o’clock this morning and the breath just went out of me. If he hadn’t been there [flashing his lights], I don’t know what would have happened to her.” — Mary Lou Adams of Franklin County on the possibility that her daughter’s car would have been swept away in a flash flood had a truck not warned her of the danger.

The creek running through the Adamses’ Wirtz neighborhood is so small no one’s bothered to name it. Flash flooding Monday night caused it to wash away Windy Creek Road, leaving a humongous gap that could easily have killed someone traveling in the dark, not aware the road had given way.
