A stronger rural economy
By Tom Vilsack
Last week, I was pleased with a report released by the White House Council of Economic Advisors, the White House Rural Council and the U.S. Department of Agriculture that noted significant progress in our efforts to grow the rural economy. But President Barack Obama and I also know that there’s more to be done.
Over the past three years, the rural economy has strengthened. The U.S. farm sector income reached a nominal record last year of $98.1 billion.
Vilsack is the U.S. secretary of agriculture.
