It’s time to step up for education

State cuts have cost Blue Ridge PBS its educational staff, but stations are forging ahead with online services.

Gov. Bob McDonnell and state legislators have abandoned public broadcasting. Fortunately, the folks at public broadcasting haven’t abandoned one of their core missions: educational services for Virginia students.

Blue Ridge PBS (WBRA-TV, Channel 15) and the state’s other four public television stations have been collaborating for several years to build a new model for meeting that need through the online eMediaVA project. The initiative will continue, but corporate givers and individual support will be crucial to its success.

    McDonnell gives millions to Daniel Snyder and Stephen Spielberg, yet abandons these valuable institutions which have served Virginia for decades.
