Two and half years ago, I had just picked up my daughter from day care in the suburbs of Washington,D.C., when a text alert sounded on my phone: Major earthquake Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Potential humanitarian disaster.
Within minutes, I was on my laptop and on a conference call with the World Bank’s Emergency Management Team. We had people and their families who were in trouble.
