Regional councils lose state support — in favor of what?

Virginia health officials want to reduce the state’s infant mortality rate and eliminate disparities in outcomes, worthy goals that have prompted an effort to overhaul the state’s stagnant efforts to improve perinatal care.

Without knowing what’s next, though, the state health department has reduced its support of regional perinatal councils that for a decade have served as an information link between the department and Virginia’s health systems and families.
