Olympic medals in perspective

The Olympics have come and gone. As millions of people return to normal, cooking, cleaning and reading to their children, I reflect on the phenomenon of national pride.
Maybe hubris is a more apt word.
Johnson is a retired high school guidance counselor who lives in Roanoke and is a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity Global Village. She recently returned from El Salvador, where she completed her 12th international build.



As nearly as I can determine, American style football was not an Olympic evernt…so why the concern over Penn State, et al
The current population of China is over 1.3 BILLIION people. We have every reason to be proud of what our SMALL NATION has produced. We have no reason to apologize to anyone or any country for our pride…our President, and you, not withstanding.
I think it is great that we won the most medals. Nothing but proud about that.
So….why are we supposed to let the PennState mess prevent us from celebrating our athletes? I couldn’t care less about the medal count, but our excitement over our gymnastics team and Phelps and the rest doesn’t serve to show disrespect to Sandusky’s victims.
