In response to “Cyclists make the parkway unsafe” (Sept. 5 Pick of the day), I’d like to take the opportunity to thank The Roanoke Times for highlighting an issue and opening it up for discussion. This letter was apparently written as satire, but I’m afraid that it hit too close to home for some drivers to recognize its humor.
Having moved back to Roanoke from the cycling-friendly city of Chicago, I hope that we can have this conversation in a measured, responsible manner that will result in the education of all parties involved. The issue that desperately needs to be discussed in earnest is the relationship between all forms of transportation and what we can do to improve communication to make the roads safe for everyone.
