A trusted, reliable source for the ages
By David F. Duncombe
I and the senior class of Parkway Christian Academy offer this response to the commentary “Keep the Bible out of politics,” by Frederick Fuller printed in the Sept.12 Roanoke Times. Fuller makes some assertions about the Bible and Christianity in defense of homosexual marriage that are blatantly incorrect. We will refute those accusations.
Duncombe, a teacher at Parkway Christian Academy, is writing on behalf of the senior class.

Regardless of your Biblical faith, you still live in this world and this nation of laws. Marriage IS “a mere legal contract between consenting adults“. You cannot claim an especial legal status. Just as your faith and your works prove your obedience to God and the sanctity of your walk, so does it bring whatever sanctity is in your marriage.
That is your religious choice for YOUR marriage. It is not the legal choice. Nothing in your religion compels the Clerk of Court to issue a marriage license and nothing in your religion compels the state to certify a marriage contract. It is a legal contract between consenting adults. No religion or clergy required at all. It is a contract MADE by the government, broken only through death or a legal government decision. Our government does not discriminate in contracts and legal activity.
Maybe you should have thought of the separation of state and church a long time ago, it is too late on the marriage issue. Too late by far.
