Radford’s smoking rules are fine
American attitudes toward smoking have changed a lot over the last few decades. Whatever chic-factor it once might have had dissipated in a fresh breeze of medical truth. Cigarettes kill not just the smoker but also people subjected to second-hand smoke. Even so, smoking remains legal, and Radford University should refrain from outright prohibition on campus.
The issue comes up only because the recent Student Government Association election included a survey of whether to ban smoking on all campus grounds. A narrow majority of students who voted supported the idea.
