Sunday letters

Romney’s energy plan, a change for Congress, a national character test and Allen’s record in Sunday’s letters to the editor.

Pick of the day: Well, it’s one road to jobs

I think it is ironic that my Republican friends believe that removing health and safety regulations will help small businesses create jobs, but they don’t give the precise method. By saving money on paperwork? The proprietors could just stuff that in their pocket.
I figured it out. Less regulation can stimulate job growth. The unregulated New England Compounding Center has made it likely that 13,000 people suffering from back pain will at least miss some work, become disabled or die due to fungal meningitis. Thus, there are sure to be many replacement jobs open to help the unemployed.
I’d be delighted were it not that my military service left me with chronic back problems and that one of those jobs might have been mine.
Perhaps relaxing airline regulations and mine safety requirements would help even more by providing hundreds of employment opportunities per incident.
