Mopeds aren’t toys
Supervisors can protect the noggins of those not smart enough to do it themselves.
Roanoke County supervisors plan today to take the first step toward requiring moped riders to wear safety gear — an action likely to go unnoticed by those already practicing safe treks.

Weather permitting, I ride a moped back and forth to work. It amazes me to see the cavalier attitude and lack of safety precautions by some riders. While Roanoke City requires wearing a helmet, I’ve seen a LOT of people riding with one perched on top of their head and think they’re conforming to the law.
My son calls them “Organ donors”.
Aprox 250,000 injuries in bathrooms, per year in the U.S. 80+% from falls in the bathtub or shower.
Should we be required to where a helmet on the head while in the head (old sailor).

IDC if they wear a helmet, Darwin and Murphy will take care of that, but they should be licensed drivers.
#3 – “…but they should be licensed drivers.”
Here’s a common misconception about mopeds…they are good for people who lost their license due to a DUI.
Not true…if you have a suspended license (such as due to a DUI), you may NOT operate a moped even though moped operators are not required to have a license.
I am under no “misconception”, I did not mention DUI or any other reason to have a suspended license or a moped/scooter as an escape. I believe if you operate a motor driven vehicle you should have a valid driver’s license.

No one said you did, Sandi.
Take a breath.
