Election lines and spending in today’s letters to the editor.
Pick of the day: Obama wins re-election; the end is near
Romans states that God determines the leaders of all nations. In the Old Testament, he used Assyrian King Nebuchadnezzar to punish Israel for its disobedience. Is he now using President Barack Obama to punish the United States for our moral decay and immoral spending?
Wednesday, Nov. 7, was like waking up from a bad dream and finding out it’s real. Welcome to the Welfare States of America. As George Bernard Shaw wrote, “A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.” On Tuesday, Paul won.
In 1770, Alexander Tyler wrote that the average life of a democracy is 200 years because when the citizens realize they can vote themselves money from the public treasury, that nation is doomed. We have outlasted the average by 36 years, but with Obama’s re-election, we are near the end.
The only hope for the United States now would be the House of Representatives developing enough spine to reject any increase in the $16 trillion debt ceiling unless Obama agrees to slash the $3.8 trillion 2013 federal budget request in half and eliminate or consolidate all cabinet departments except State, Defense and Treasury.
