Leave Cleaveland out of judicial bickering

Congratulations to Bill Cleaveland on his appointment to be a general district court judge. We have high hopes for the former Republican delegate whose district included parts of Roanoke, Roanoke County and Botetourt County. 

Roanokers still love wieners

Just a few weeks ago, it looked like a dispute between the historic Roanoke Weiner Stand and Center in the Square would boil over and deny diners bun-wrapped delicacies. Now comes word that just about everything has been resolved. The eatery will soon be able to open in its new location just around the corner from its old one. 

Roanoke’s top cop is Virginia’s top cop, too

We’re not sure how many law enforcement officers there are in Virginia. Thousands, certainly. Perhaps tens of thousands. And of all those police officers, sheriffs’s deputies and more, none is as good as Roanoke Police Chief Chris Perkins, at least in the eyes of the American Legion.
