DOJ’s investigation of the Deepwater Horizon blowout should continue.
BP admitted criminal conduct in the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster and agreed last week to pay a record $4billion in fines and penalties. And that is not the end of its liability. The Justice Department is still pursuing civil penalties under environ-mental laws that could amount to billions more dollars.
Even that prospect does not satisfy the demands of justice. Not in a catastrophe that took the lives of 11workers, dealt a severe blow to the economies of Gulf Coast states and devastated wildlife in the waters and along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico.
