Pick of the day: Neighborhood cut-throughs a danger
Stephanie Smith’s letter (“No need to park on street? Then don’t,” Nov. 5) deserves an answer from one of the residents who parks on the street.
If you really take notice, not all of the homes have driveways and those that do have enough room to park one or two cars. With several family members of driving age, each home could have three or four vehicles.
As an additional observation, the mention of these streets being narrower (than say, Grandin Road and Brandon Avenue) leads me to wonder why people prefer them as a cut-through.
Obviously, many people like to shave a few seconds off their route, but it does create more traffic: a danger to our children from speeding cars and to our vehicles from hit-and-runs.
We love living in this area and hope that people will respect our right to a safe neighborhood, as we respect the same for all Roanoke neighborhoods.
