The soon-to-be-townspeople of Bedford and their neighbors in the surrounding county can’t be assured of peace and good will to all for eternity. But their agreement that their future should be mutual puts them on a surer footing as they tackle challenges, both lingering ones and new ones certain to surface.
Three judges gave unanimous approval Tuesday to a plan in which the city of Bedford will become a town on July 1, 2013. The city and county have historic and geographic ties, but perhaps their most important connection is their schools. The city has contracted with the county since 1985 for its educational services.
