After starving Virginia’s public schools, Gov. McDonnell tosses them a few crumbs. Next, he’ll seek to divert some of their funding to roads.
Last week, Gov.Bob McDonnell announced his plan to reward teachers with long-awaited raises and to weed out bad teachers.
His plan is a less ambitious version of his teacher accountability agenda of last year that many educators found off-putting. Though the governor would require schools to accept his terms in exchange for raises, the plan initially received a warm reception in usually skeptical educational circles. It goes to prove, when people are starving, they’ll eat anything without subjecting it to the sniff test.
