Light dispels the darkness

Walking back into the kitchen last Saturday, I instinctively folded the paper inward to conceal the headline from my breakfasting kids. “Man kills 20 children at elementary school.” It was too much for our idyllic morning. I wasn’t in denial, but I wanted to shield them, for just a little while longer, from knowing that such crimes are possible.
