Montgomery County should reconsider park gift
Montgomery County might be strapped for cash, but the board of supervisors has demonstrated acutely shortsighted vision by turning down free land for a park not once but twice.
The gift of 44 acres behind the Thomas Lane neighborhood of Prices Fork first came before supervisors a couple of years ago from Anne Price Yates. She is a granddaughter of Harvey Price, a former dean of agriculture at Virginia Tech who once farmed the property. She offered it for a park and asked that it be named in her ancestor’s honor. The Prices Fork community already bears the family name.
Supervisors turned her down.

Ha, ha, ha — Montgomery Board of Supervisors look at anything longer term than their next election? Right!
The other downside to this park is that it is too close to “rich” Blacksburg (per Gary Creed) instead of “poor” Shawsville. I’ll bet the county builds an indoor pool down in the valley before it considers doing much of anything for the northern part of the county.
