Re-regulation is benefitting electric customers
By Robert M. Blue
Portions of the Virginia Electric Utility Regulation Act have come under fire from the commonwealth’s attorney general in a report that, by its own admission, largely ignores many key benefits the law has brought to customers of Dominion Virginia Power.
The benefits include low electric rates, consumer protections, thousands of much-needed jobs, cleaner air and progress toward energy independence in Virginia. In fact, the law is producing the best of both worlds — more than $2 billion of well-documented customer savings combined with the largest privately funded catalyst of economic growth in the state.
Blue is senior vice president of law, public policy and environment for Dominion.
