I’ve lived in Virginia most of my life and never had more than a 15-minute commute to work. Still, I’ve spent many hours writing editorials lamenting state leaders’ failure to adequately fund the commonwealth’s transportation system.
I would like to think my neighbors and friends have read every word. Even if they have, I doubt many are terribly worked up about the issue. They understand, in a theoretical sense, that the economy depends on modern infrastructure, and they get annoyed when they blow a tire on a pothole. But they aren’t sitting and seething in traffic jams for hours every week.
