Scrooge lives, unrepentant

An uncharitable remark from Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli gets a response from Catholic bishops.

On a Christmas note sadly appropriate to the political season, the liberal blog Think Progress posted a report Thursday on a speech in which Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli blasted Catholic bishops for having “helped create a culture of dependency on government, not God.”

Cuccinelli, who is a practicing Catholic and the presumed Republican nominee for Virginia governor in next year’s election, bemoaned “how soft and weak the leadership of my church has been” in advocating for the poor and dispossessed. In doing so, he said, “the cost was always liberty,” citing as an example the bishops’ support for universal health care. The bishops turned around and protested when the Affordable Care Act mandated contraceptive coverage for women in health care policies.

    `More like the right to freeload`…an opinion piece by Danny Axsom today…when I first saw the headline, I assumed the article was concerning the % of Welfare recipients in todays society.
