A foundation for city parks
Roanoke plans to create a parks foundation to aid its rec department.
Roanoke officials are seeking to create a parks foundation that would, similar to the library foundation, raise funds to tackle projects beyond what city taxpayers can afford.
If it succeeds, park patrons could enjoy nicer shelters, year-round rest rooms and amenities they long to have. While the foundation also could help in providing scholarships to offset fees for needy children to participate in programs, its main focus will be in raising capital funds. This could help the parks and recreation department find new sources of funds to tackle a long list of projects that go wanting for lack of money.
