Sen. Ralph Smith showed he has the ability to see beyond the last election.
We don’t agree too often with Republican Sen. Ralph Smith’s politics. So when we do, we like to offer him a tip of the hat.
Last Friday morning, Smith offered just such an occasion when he announced that he would not allow his Republican colleagues to game the electoral system in Virginia. News that a Republican member of the Senate Privileges and Elections Committee would refuse to participate in his party’s shenanigans put their scheme in jeopardy, a fate that was sealed when Sen. Jill Vogel, a fellow Republican committee member, joined Smith. Then Gov. Bob McDonnell announced his opposition.
