By Marvin Gilliam Jr.

After reading your editorial of Dec. 27 (“Helen Dragas should resign”), I must respectfully disagree with your declaration that Helen Dragas should resign.

I further disagree with your untenable assertion that she is not, and cannot in the future be, an effective leader of the University of Virginia Board of Visitors and a progressive voice on behalf of the university.  Gilliam, of Bristol, is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in economics, a member of the board of visitors and has served on various university-affiliated boards.
