Giles County overreacts
An online conspiracy theory did not justify closing Narrows schools.
The holidays did not soothe the anxiety many Americans feel after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Force of will and holiday cheer are not enough to wash away fear. Rational thought, a few deep breaths and not falling into the paranoid realm of online conspiracies, however, can work wonders.
Giles County law enforcement and school officials would do well to remember that.

We cannot live in fear. The evil doers of this world desire nothing more than for us to live in fear. How dare we let our lives be dictated by fools and scoundrels.
The events that happened at Sandy Hook have put our entire nation on edge. This was a national tragedy that broke the hearts of millions. If Giles county needed the rest of the week to ensure security of all staff and students then so be it. Schools nationwide are finding ways to better ensure nothing like this happens again. This is a crazy world we live in and the Giles county school officials and authorities were merely doing their jobs and doing what they saw necessary to keep our children and community safe. Instead of criticizing these people and decisions made, we should show our support and gratitude for their concern.
Had Giles County done nothing and God forbid something did happen, the story would have been about their failure to do enough.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
As people who deal with “its on the internet” on a daily basis, I think you know all too well how easily people are convinced of anything, especially when they want to be. Giles County reacted as appropriately as many others would have under the same circumstances. Would I have done it? No. Can I understand it? Yes.
