Solving problems, saving lives
By Aubrey M. Hicks
I have written many letters to this paper and had the good fortune to have a few printed. I have opined about city government and generally voiced my take on how I see things.
This writing is not any type of humor, nor is it a jab at the powers that be. What it is this time is a request for all of us to come together and address this problem of school safety. I am a grandfather, I was a hunter, and I am someone who believes in the Constitution. I didn’t feel compelled to write this until the last week of coverage in the paper.
Hicks is retired and lives with his wife and grandsons in Roanoke.

Beyond doubt this is an anguishing time for parents and grandparents and I thank God my children are grown and I have no grandchildren to have to try and explain this too.
I have no problem with the “no-name” idea.
When the mass death of such innocent children cannot bring this nation together, it cannot be done.
That is pretty darned sad too.
