@32 89Hoo, no worries. While they say the 3-little words that keep a marriage together are "You were right...." and as much as I enjoy being rights, this is as much about sharing and becoming 'less wrong'.

For a great essay on being 'less wrong', please see this by Isaac Asimov.

@30 Chuck, really? I pepper my language with qualifiers all the time. See #12 where I begin with "It’s obviously a personal opinion but ..." I write things like that because I realize others can disagree and because there may be no one "right" answer. If there is no right answer, it means I can be wrong.

Haven't I told you guys, maybe I haven't, that I've switched back and forth between being a religious believer and atheism? Do you know how hard it is to tell your parents they're wrong to be religious, and then come back to tell them they're right about Jesus? And then go back and tell them they're wrong again?

I've been wrong many times. I try to follow where the evidence leads and be honest with myself so I can be honest with others. If that means changing my mind and admitting I'm wrong, although painful, I try to do it.

I'm sorry I give you the impression I think so much of myself, but I learn by putting a position out there and defending it. I also try to learn from others too.

Best wishes.

As I have said many times, I was raised among hunters and there are people with a gun propped in the corner for quick access in many homes I am aware of. I also know collectors and hunters who have their guns in display cases and locked gun cabinets as well as on some "deer paw racks" in their dens or in "the gun room". I am sorry if anyone thinks that is really all that unusual. I assure you it is not.

I will also say that thanks to the rise of crime and the price of guns, many people with several rifles and shotguns do invest in hard to enter or move gun safes. IDK about bolted to the floor though.

I also know people who have had their guns stolen because no sign is needed when people in the neighborhood know who is a hunter and who has guns. It is hardly a real big secret in many communities. One obliging elderly lady helped some "antiques buyers" by telling them my uncle's house had lots of guns and antiques, but he just went into a nursing home. They cleaned him out!

I want every gun owner to be responsible but requiring more anti-theft measures because guns get stolen should remain a choice not a requirement IMO.
