Howell ends Senate scheme
The House speaker placed fairness ahead of Republican desires.
Virginia House Speaker William Howell restored some sanity to the General Assembly on Wednesday when he blocked an ugly power grab by the Senate. He, at least, can stand before the commonwealth with a clean conscience.
Senate Republicans sparked partisan outrage and mocking on national television a few weeks ago when they exploited President Obama’s cere-monial inauguration to sneak through a new electoral map that benefited the party. Since then, their scheme has cast pallor over everything else in what was supposed to be a productive legislative session.

I agree that this very statesman like choice needs to be applauded. We all know the frustration of not getting our way, which is very hard when you believe you are right or righting a wrong, but rules do need to matter and all manner of ill comes from flouting that maxim.
Thank you Speaker Howell, and I pray more people find your integrity and courage. Soon.
Thanx to Speaker Howell for a proud moment. The SEIU thanks you. George Washington said parties would be the death of our republic.
Hold your horses. Was the presidential inauguration a state holiday? Was the Virginia legislature closed? If not, that guy that left his job to go to DC was AWOL. He should have been in Virginia doing his job. The dems should be mad at him for leaving his post.
