Wow Joe, you really dislike our governor. The goal is not to make schools look bad, but to report facts. How can Montgomery county be in trouble again after a 12 cent increase in real estate taxes. Maybe they are like our country, and have a spending problem.

What hasn’t been said (because it is a flaw in the initial program, but charter schools and vouchers will fix that) is just what parents are supposed to do with a grade. They can’t change schools unless they move to a new attendance zone (or ask if their child can be an out-of-zone student or just lie about their address).

The whole plan pushed by McDonnell and his pals, along with throttling funding, is just a move to make public education look bad. It started with goofy George Allen and the Standards of Learning tests, designed to show that public schools/teachers were bad to lay the groundwork for a voucher program. McDonnell is just moving things along, with attempted changes in teacher contracts, this silly grading plan, and the move to set up state control of schools. It can come to no good end.

As someone said at the Montgomery Co. Board of Supervisors meeting tonight, “our schools aren’t broken, they just need funding.”

I believe he has the wrong idea of the use. The grade is not for the government to beat up the schools, its for the parents to use. We can attend board meeting and discuss school grades.
