Long live Roanoke’s 1884 seal
Roanoke’s cluttered and smog-shrouded seal certainly makes a statement. Just not the right one. The city’s original seal better represents today’s Roanoke.

What matters to the leaders of the City of Roanoke are the City Seal, the H&C Coffee Sign, the Dr. Pepper Sign, the Mill Mountain Star, Victory Stadium, and anything having to do with trains. Okay maybe not Victory Stadium any more, thank goodness. But all of these are symbols of a City that is living in the past. Will Roanoke be a rail hub in 50 years? Well, maybe it will, but I don’t think the City should put all its eggs in that basket.
