In recent months, I have written two editorial critiques of our Republican Congress. This Congress has little to do with the traditional mainstream conservative values of the GOP. It has been highjacked by a wacko libertarian ideology that would be laughable if it were not so powerful and dangerous.
Many of my Republican friends agree that the tea party libertarian Christian right is intent on destroying our government. They have sabotaged our recovery, destroyed our middle class, and are undercutting all of our social programs, such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, national health insurance, our safety nets (food stamps and unemployment insurance), our veterans benefits, and even our public schools. In their brand of libertarian ideology, all that government should do is to protect property rights. Their basic hypocrisy claims that the free market economy will offer everyone job opportunities.
