On JFK’s death : With the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination tomorrow, many folks have had the late president on their minds. Listening to various news stories on the tragedy and the countless conspiracy theories that followed it, I’ve been thinking about someone else: William of Occam. He was the 14th century monk and philosopher who originated what came to be called Occam’s (or Ockham’s) Razor. This handy tool is usually expressed something like this: “Entities are not to be multiplied beyond necessity.”
