The best health care marketplaces are being operated by states, not the federal government. Virginia should give it a try.
Many Virginians observing the calamitous launch of the federal health care exchange had to be thinking, surely there are able folks here in the commonwealth who could have done a better job.
Sen. John Watkins, R-Powhatan, had that reaction, but it wasn’t an epiphany for him. He’s been trying for two year to pass legislation setting up a state-operated alternative to the floundering Healthcare.gov website. He’s planning to give it a third shot in January in hopes that more of his colleagues will finally agree.
