College tuition keeps climbing

For Monday, we're writing about tuition increases at Tech and Radford. College is quickly moving beyond affordability for most families. Virginians have state lawmakers that consistently underfund higher education to thank. There were some hopeful signs this year, but we have a long way to go.

This is why pre-purchasing the college education is a great idea - 529's... But at the same time why can't Virginia have a Hope Grant like Georgia - get the 'B' average and the education is paid for. There must be some reason our esteemed elected officials don't push for this - I wish they would share it. Or maybe someone here can explain it to me. Education is up to those wanting it, there are many ways to get an education, 'Don't let school get in the way of your education'. Making it available to those that strive for excellence but fall short on funds is up to us as Virginians to help them achieve to secure their future which will improve ours.

Underfund education? 40% of tax dollars goes towards education. I've said it before. Let me say it again. Here's how you remedy the problem:

Get rid of worthless diversity and multicultural departments.

Get rid of so-called women's and black studies.

Get rid of waste-of-time teacher education departments.

Do these things at all the state universities and colleges and you've got money to keep tuition down AND help take care of the transportation problem.
