No place for political ploys
Immigration legislation proposed by state Republicans smacks of political gamesmanship.
State Republicans have found a way to divert attention from the flawed transportation plan and its voter-repelling bad-driver fees: an illegal immigration proposal that would prohibit public colleges and universities from accepting illegal immigrants.

We smell a rat

The rats at Fairview Elementary School didn't just move in overnight.
We don't know about you, but if a rat were to drop out of a ceiling tile right now or skitter across our floor, we're thinking we'd deal with it. ASAP. Like yesterday. Rats are nasty, disease-bearing creatures that gnaw through walls, wiring, insulation, books, food pantries, whatever. They are not a force to ignore.

Do the people running the school system here in Roanoke have any brains whatsoever?

The more I hear and read about this crowd the more I wonder if it isn't time to call the exterminators for the entire administrative and operational people (save Ms. Bishop for the time being).

Common sense has all be been completely eliminated apparently. Me thinks it's time for some more heads to roll at the Roanoke City School System!

This is what you get with an appointed school board. They really don't have much interest in education as it is simply a stepping stone to other things such as City Council. The school administration has had very specific "orders" as I'll call them. "Don't bring up problems...deal with it and make it go away." And that applies to all types of "rats". But then since everything was in such good shape a pair of the board members elected to move on now that the hard work was done. I feel it's more like get out before the entire Roanoke Valley realizes what a bunch of lame brains we have/had on the school board. And what can you expect of the hires of lame brians? They would not know a good administrator if they bit them in the butt! But then eventually, the odds might get you a good one. Who knows if Bishop is it.
But I agree with you totally.

Well, I had hoped the actual editorial might include more info than the teaser, but, surprise, it doesn't. Just another blind attack on the Republican party.

The Roanoke Times would have you believe that the Republicans are solely responsible for the abuser fees. What they conveniently neglect to tell you is that the transportation bill passed the House 85-15. Of the fifteen no votes, only 5 were Democrats, so 35 of 40 Democrats voted for the fees. And a Democratic Governor also chose to sign the bill rather than veto it.

So how is it that all the responsibility lies with the Republicans? Is any proposed Democratic legislation also smoke to divert attention from the fees?

And I'll ask again. Do you really need statistics to prove the issue of this editorial?

If there are ANY illegal aliens admitted to a public college or university and ANY eligible US citizens or legal aliens were denied admission that same admission period, then the illegal aliens are taking slots away from someone who is here legally. That's just common sense and logic.

Maybe we could commission an over-priced, tax-payer funded longitudinal study to look into this and tell us what we all already know. That would make about as much sense as the current practice of giving in-state tuition rates, supposedly reserved for Virginia residents, to illegal aliens when they aren't even in the United States, much less Virginia, legally.
