Southwest Virginia's smooth economy
The region's economic output isn't as volatile as many other metropolitan areas.
The Roanoke and New River valleys are not bursting at their economic seams. Raise your hand if that comes as no surprise. Now put it down because only the worst pessimist finds no upside to the region's slow but steady growth.

Webb should stick to his guns
Virginia's first-term senator says he's not interested in a spot on the Democratic ticket. Good.
We can see the advantages of having U.S. Sen. James Webb on the Democratic ticket in November as the party's vice presidential nominee. But if he's asked, we hope he'll say no. Virginia will be losing its senior senator when Republican John Warner retires in January. Should Webb run on his party's ticket -- which he says he is not looking to do -- and the Democrats were to win, the commonwealth would have to send two freshmen to the Senate next year. That would be one too many.

Dan RadmacherJerry at From On High found little comfort in our editorial about the region's economy:
"So the Roanoke Times finds a silver lining in the fact that we're so poor we don't have a pot to piss in (as my daddy used to say). Be happy; we can't lose what we don't have."

HenryObviously Jerry hasn't looked in the classified ads. There is no shortage of jobs in the area. We still have a growing economy.
This whole recession scare is largely a media invention designed to get us to vote for The Messiah and his promise of "change".

1) Defeat in Iraq
2) Abortion on Demand
3) Socialism for all
4) No achievements
5) No record
6) Never been scrutinized
7) Emptiest suits since Kerry
