Mark Saturday as a day to help feed the hungry

For Friday: The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive won't do that this year, certainly, but organizers of the annual event do set reachable goals. In the Roanoke Valley, the target is 150,000 pounds in food donations, to be collected Saturday with the help of mail carriers as they make their rounds door to door. With food prices rising, donations will be all the dearer to make -- and all the more needed by area food banks. People who can give, should.

I hereby pledge to give a jar of peanut butter, a can of quality meat product, rice or a rice product and 2 cans of quality beans!

This is the absolutely worst time for food pantries. Families with kids are losing school lunches and breakfast and people don't give food during the summer months.

Also, there are some worthwhile religious organizations who distribute food. It's OK to talk about them. It doesn't just have to be a one-day government subsidized event.

To hell with the poor.
Tell them to get a better job and vote Republican this year.

Nah, tell them to quit their job and live off the government.

Good thinking Henry.
As a newly converted Republican, I see the mindset. We fight against any increase in the minimum wage to help businesses become richer. By so doing we increase the gap between the rich and the poor. The sorry poor people can't make a living and have to go on welfare. Then the dumb Democrats want to increase taxes to pay the welfare costs, and we use the increase in taxes against them at election time.
Pure genius!

By the way, when do I get my discount card for food and fuel prices?

Remember this axiom: When liberals intervene, the little guy ALWAYS gets the screws.

Liberals like Blue John believe business owners just sit there with their ill-gotten loot, and minimum wage increases force them to give share some with the little guy.

In reality, owners make the same money, but it's the little guy getting laid off who suffers. The little guy staying on will have to work harder because the work will be spread among fewer.
