Wind and oil off the coast

We're working on an editorial for Tuesday about energy. As Congress gets back to work after their ridiculously long vacation, offshore drilling will be a hot topic of discussion. What was already an intense issue grew even more pressing as Iran called for OPEC to cut production. Congress needs to work out a comprehensive energy policy. Maybe offshore drilling should be part of it, but rushing to do just that as an election looms would be a poor way to make policy. Indeed, researchers last month reported that a wind farm off the coast of Virginia shows great promise and would not carry the same environmental risks as drilling.
